Apostille Your Birth Certificate
Apostille Your Birth Certificate
You may be required to authenticate your birth certificate when traveling to another country for business or pleasure.
When you must present your paperwork to another country, you are also required to present a certificate of authentication that verifies the signature and seals on the birth certificate.
There are two types of validation:
- An apostille
- Embassy legalization
The Hague Convention of 1961 established a uniform process of confirming the authenticity of documents. Countries belonging to this convention accept the apostille, while non-member countries only accept legalized documents that are processed through the Embassy or Consulate.
For example: Italy, France, and Costa Rica all accept an apostille to prove the authenticity of a document. While China, Thailand, and the UAE all require embassy legalization.
Did you know… the word apostille is French for ‘certificate’
Don’t worry if you are unsure which verification your destination country requires; we are here to assist you. As experts in apostille services, we know which type of authentication is needed. We have worked with nearly every country in the world and can help you properly apostille your birth certificate.

What do I need to do before sending in my Birth Certificate?
Obtaining a certified copy of your birth certificate can be a bit time-consuming. A birth certificate is considered a vital document, and other examples of vital documents are a marriage license or death certificate. If you do not have the original birth certificate, you may contact the State Registrar or County Clerk’s office where you were born, and request a certified copy. The certified copy means the county or state has endorsed it as a valid copy.
Another way to obtain a copy of your birth certificate is to work with an online source such as VitalChek. They will contact the correct county or state office and mail you a certified copy of your birth certificate.
Once you have the certified copy of your birth certificate, we can begin the apostille process.
Did you know… you DO NOT notarize your birth certificate. An original or certified copy is required for the apostille or embassy legalization.
We can help you apostille your birth certificate from any state or US territory with the highest level of customer service.
