Dual citizenship refers to an individual who retains citizenship in their home country and also becomes a citizen of another country. The person holds the nationality of two different countries at the same time.

Not all countries accept dual citizenship. India does not allow it at all. Austria allows a person to seek citizenship in particular circumstances, such as being a survivor or decedent of a victim of the Nationalist Socialist regime, or if the individual has lived in Austria for 10 years, and the last 5 years have had a resident permit.

The United States allows dual citizenship but follows the ‘master nationality’ rule and only recognizes US citizenship – one situation of this means that if a person with dual citizenship joins the US military, this will automatically revoke the second citizenship.

• Investments – some countries offer citizen investment programs or residency by investment programs.

Getting the Documents Apostilled

An apostille is a certification that identifies the authenticity of a document. All countries that are members of the Hague Convention of 1961 recognize the apostille as a form of authentication. Non-member countries require documents to be legalized through their embassy or consulate.
